Mount Si Golf Course shows their support for junior golf in the Snoqualmie valley. This year Mount Si is adding a new club to their existing ladies and men's clubs. The junior club will offer players under the age of 18 an opportunity to compete with others, get discounts on golf, and the chance to sit on the club board of directors as policy makers for the club.
The club has also decided to make use of an additional set of tees for junior golfers that will play much closer to the hole than the regular set of three currently in use at the course. We are working with the Washington State Golf Association during the process and plan on having the tees rated so that our youth players can establish a handicap from these as well as the normal tees.
The club will also fill a void that has been felt in the youth golf in this area and others. That is supporting our students and anyone who joins the club in playing on the course. We will do this in a few ways. First, Mount Si has been gracious enough to extend a discount to all junior club members that will allow its members to pay only $10 for golf on the weekdays and $15 for golf on the weekends after 11:00am, as well as receiving half price on range balls. These discounts will allow students to play for a fraction of what it has traditionally cost. Please help me in thanking Matt Campbell (Head Golf Professional) and all the staff behind the counter when the opportunity arises. Without the foresight of clubs like these junior golf and the game in general would be far worse off.
Juniors will also be encouraged to play during league nights. These league nights will be held on Sunday evenings and will allow students to play from several sets of tees and compete in a variety of different formats. As some of you may remember, Brandon's Little Bogeys Junior Golf offered this league during the last two years. This portion of the programming has been given to the Junior Club by the Little Bogeys to enhance the new club and give them a springboard for a successful season.
We have an ambitious vision for the future of the club. I envision an elected board of directors comprised of junior club members running their own club. This will allow the club to hold tournaments such as a Junior Club Championship, Junior-Member Events, and outreach events. I also see the future possibilities of a scholarship fund, and fundraising events to benefit the community beyond that of the golfers.
This is a great opportunity and every junior golfer should take advantage of it. The cost to sign up for the junior golf club is only $15 and to register just go down to Mount Si Golf Course and let them know you want to sign up. And remember that the course has given it's full support of this club and we need to let them know that we appreciate it.
